When you invite people to stay in your home it's customary that you make the necessary preparations for your home. You clean up, prepare the guest room, and perhaps pull out the special towels or sheets. Whatever you do in preparation, the goal is for your invited guest to feel welcome in your home and feel comfortable while staying there. The same concept is prudent for believers of Christ. We know we can go to God's place and feel welcome and invited. However, God also desires an invitation, but not just for a temporary stay, but to dwell with us as well.
